Language Camps at LP Learning Center

The LP Learning Center offers students the activities that they would experience at a typical summer camp such as art projects, crafts, sports, hikes, etc., but in addition we also instruct the students in a foreign language for a short time every day, and then they participate in activities that reinforce their language lessons.  Native speakers of the language interact with the students to ensure that they receive authentic instruction for the language.

It goes without saying that children learn and retain a foreign language more effectively than adults. However, there are definite benefits to learning in the “camp” environment as opposed to the classroom.  The first benefit is the immersion without the confusion.  The camp counselors teach and interact with the students in a way that is easily understood through sports and other outdoor activities that pair a large amount of oral practice with body language, replacing theory in the classroom with practice on the soccer field and in other group activities.  Another benefit is the anxiety-free learning process.  Anyone who has immersed himself/herself in a foreign country can attest just how nerve wrecking it can be in social situations.  At the language camp, there are enough students so that they don’t feel singled out or anxious when they at first don’t understand the counselor.  This scenario allows for stress-free learning and retention, making learning a foreign language a fun activity as opposed to a chore.

Later on in the afternoon, the counselors instruct students in another language lesson, which reinforces their earlier lessons and the oral practice throughout the day.  At the end of the day, students have learned and practiced a good deal more of a foreign language than they could have learned in a classroom, and that is the benefit aside from the memories your child will make with his or her peers in an unforgettable experience on which they can look back and be thankful they had the opportunity to learn another language as well as go to camp.
